The last day of 'vacation'

I've plugged my poor little laptop in, because Hubby has the good one at work... N. is napping, Nammie is napping, and I can't be bothered to do the dishes... it's the last day of her visit, and it's always the most depressing.

I need to find a way to write more here if I can... I always find it keeps me calmer and more centered, just like knitting or crocheting. Even with Mom's visit, I'm having a hard time of things with my grandmother and her alzheimers, and it's really leaving me feeling very unbalanced. I talked with my grammie on the phone last night for a few minutes, and she was sharp as a tack. But only for those few minutes. She's still sundowning each evening, and I don't think a day goes by where she's not upset to the point of tears. It's killing me. And I can't go back to help right now because of work (although I think I'd just be in the way). It sucks. It really sucks. But having her in the facility is the best thing for everyone concerned, so I'm trying my damndest to focus on the positive.

I haven't the computing power to upload pictures, but we have had a great week, absolutely nothing to complain about, and we've even done some knitting. I started a Calorimetry on Wednesday (and finished on Thursday!!), and Mom is a few inches into a new sweater for N. I have yet to take out my new sewing machine, though; perhaps that's what I should do while everyone else naps.

Maybe I just need to sit in the kitchen for a little bit. It's the sunniest room, and today it's finally warm and bright outside. I just need to absorb some of the sunny attitude, I guess. I'll be better soon, I'm sure. No more disconnected, rambly posts. Promise.

So much for coming back to post...

... and I'm hoping to get out of here a bit early, so this won't be a long one either...

Crochet is happening, knitting is happening, cross-stitch is happening (albeit slowly). I've completed the body of another doily, and it's waiting for flowers. I've knit half a strip on the baby blanket of doom. I've compiled all the DMC floss that I need to start any of three projects I've got lined up.

Mom is visiting, and it's nice to have an extra pair of hands... and we've been having so much fun. Shopping and visiting relatives and just hanging out; it's been hugely busy since Friday. N.'s routine was screwed up, so we've brought him to daycare this week, but even with the screwy timing, he's having a blast with Mom. N. just loves her, has decided to call her "Nammie".... everything he does, "Nammie" has to come and see or help. I'm dreading the weekend, because he's obviously old enough and aware enough to notice her absence.

We've also got chaos at the other end of the family - Grams finally has a bed in a great facility, and will move in next week if all goes well. Dad hasn't slept in the months he's been living with her, and she declines by the week mentally. It's heartbreaking, and I hate it, but I know that having her where they're equipped to deal with Alzheimer's is the best thing for everyone's health. And I hate it.

I will get off my butt and post more photos... and post more in general... I promise (L. at the yarn store asked the other day)... I got a little bit of yarn for my birthday, and Mom is now knitting a sweater for N., so we're both getting back into it.

And now I have to go and photo my gel so I can get the heck out of here... time to get the kidlet and go home to see Nammie.

Still here

I'm thinking if I get these experiments started I'll have time to write a bit later today... we're all still here, my mom is visiting, we've had two birthdays this week, and it's freaking raining. But it's not so bad. More later....

Drive-by Flickr Blogging

So. I can't be arsed to download photos over and over again to my lab computer, so we're stuck with the one-photo-per-post thing.... Sigh. I want a new, functioning laptop....

This is a shot of some of the cupcakes i made a few weeks ago for our Easter Egg Hunt at one of Hubby's labmates houses... they're a Martha Stewart recipe (gah) but are admittedly delicious.

Nothing too much new here. I've been doing a lot of thread crochet lately (should have two FOs soon to photograph and post), I tidied up a BSJ for my friend, because the damn blankie just ain't getting done in time, and I'm thinking about starting an honest-to-goodness cross-stitch project soon.

Other than that, I'm just counting down the days until my mother gets here, I'm still fighting off this cold/phlegm assault, although I think it's transitioned into allergies, and N. is continuing to kick my butt with his advancing awareness, language, and attitude. He's too cute, though, so I can't complain...

And now I have to deal with petri plates and cultures so I can do my early lunch... because I have to sell raffle tickets for the potluck daycare thing tonight - the prizes are good, so I begrudgingly bought some, but if we don't help out, the teachers get no breaks today.... and I love N's teachers.

Ta for now!

On the mend again

Drive by posting to say we survived the weekend, had a pretty fun egg hunt, and the viruses are heading out of our house again (hopefully for a while).

I'm still working on some thread crochet, and decided, after picking up this book (NSFW - language), that I needed yet another hobby... and I've gone over to the dark side. I'll have a finished (if not framed) project in another couple of days.

And, on the upswing, it's 19ºC/66ºF outside, there are flowers everywhere (we won't mention what the pollen is doing), and Mom arrives in 17 days :-)
